This needs another update - as of Drupal 5.5, the password issues discussed at the end are no longer an issue. The email is still generated (and fails to send unless you've set that up, which is doubtful if this is a Drupal test box), but the temporary password is also displayed on screen, along with a dialog to change this information immediately.

PS - Why are we locking entries?
